Day 30 - April 17
Ready, Set, Go!

   We were created to “know, love, and serve God.” And all the baptized are called to do this perfectly: to grow to that fullness of life that is the perfection of love. That is our goal—to know and love God “in Christ” as deeply and passionately as God knows and loves us. God calls us to do great things, and God empowers us to do them as the body of Jesus acting on earth today with us, in us, and through us!
   Persevering in this hope, laboring to bring about the reign of God on earth though we feel at times nothing but helplessness and hopelessness, is a mystical experience. But God is always calling us, and strengthening us, to renew our determination to shoulder our responsibility as “stewards of the kingship of Christ” and to exercise leadership in bringing about changes on earth.
   These simple nuts and bolts are an easy, practical, and profitable way to get started.
   All you have to do is begin…and you’re never alone:
   Lord, do this with me. Do this in me. Do this through me. Amen!

The truth, the reality of Catholic life today, is that many people do not “experience community” in their parishes—at least, not that “communion in the Holy Spirit,” that mystical experience that we wish for each other at Mass.    What we call “Christian community” is not just a “common unity” of doctrine, morals, and cultural practices. You just follow the “three R’s”— Remembering, Reflecting, Responding.    Remembering can also be reading. Writings are just recorded memories. The first step in meditating on the gospel is to call to mind, by reading or remembering, something that Jesus said or did. Confront it. Look at it. Don’t let it just go in one ear and out the other. Take it seriously.    Reflecting is the way we take it seriously. We think about what the words mean, and especially about what they mean for us. This isn’t hard.    Responding is the most important step. Everything you do when you meditate is meant to lead you to decisions.    You can always find an answer if you think small enough.
