Day 13 - March 25, 2019

30 Days to a Vibrant Spirituality Online Retreat

Day 13 - March 25
The Nuts and Bolts of Prayer

The Bible is God’s basic way of communicating with us. The important thing about reading the Bible is not what God inspired someone to write a few thousand years ago. The important thing is what God is saying to us now. The written words are just a starting point. The conversation goes on from there. And we don’t know where it might go.
When we live by the life of Jesus himself (which we call the “grace of our Lord Jesus Christ”), we share in Jesus’ own act of knowing. That is what “faith” is. It is not we alone who read the Bible, but Jesus who is reading the words in us and catching us up in his own act of understanding them.
But remember: to act by grace is always to act in partnership with Jesus. He doesn’t just put thoughts into our head; he joins in and takes part in our act of thinking. If we are thinking, Jesus can think with us and in us and through us as a partner, a co-thinker.
The word we use for thinking about the Bible, or about anything else that can tell us about God, is meditation.

Stop now and think.  Does this make sense to me?
How can I respond to what Fr. Knight is saying?
