Day 18 - April 1
The Mystery of Empowerment
The Mystery of Empowerment
Underlying this simple practice is a deep
mystery. It is the mystery of empowerment to live on the level of God. In early
Christian preaching this was called “the gift of the Spirit.” The gift of the
Spirit is power, divine empowerment,
the mystical experience of knowing
that you are being empowered to act on the level of God.
The gift of empowerment allows us to live out in action the divine life of God we received at baptism. We bear witness to the resurrection of Jesus by a lifestyle that cannot be explained without it. We live God’s lifestyle, the lifestyle Jesus chose. Not in all its details, of course —we aren’t going to be itinerant preachers living on alms—but in its basic, guiding principles.
For us who have “become Christ” by baptism, who share in his divine life and mission, all our “works” should express this new level of life in us and contribute to the new purpose it gives us. Both the source and the summit of everything we do should be the power and glory of God: the glory of Jesus living in us, acting with us, in us, and through us.

Stop
now and think. Does this make sense to
me?
